Check out the champions for our recent Big Indie Pitch, as we arrived in LA for E3 week

Spellfast crowned champion at the Big Indie Pitch in Los Angeles

E3 is all about celebrating all of the new and upcoming games that we can all look forward too.

So, what better way for us to join in this party than by bringing the Big Indie Pitch to Los Angeles in conjunction with our sponsors indieSky, all in order to highlight some of the most exciting indie games in development for mobile platforms.

Just quickly, for those not in the know, Big Indie Pitch is a regular event run by the makers of PocketGamer.biz. It gives indie developers the chance to pitch their games to industry experts and journalists in a speed-dating-style format.

Teams get the opportunity to get valuable feedback on their games, as well as win great prizes such as promotional packages and, more importantly, the coveted Big Indie Pitch bat.

Lots of exciting new games

We’re now nearly halfway through the year, and there’s already some incredible names that will be looking to make even more of a mark come our annual Big Indie Awards. An event which this year will take place at the G-Star conference in Busan, South Korea this November, which we are hosting in conjunction with our sponsor G-Star.

Some of the names in contention include the likes of our first ever two-time champion FINIFUGU&&friends, Triband with their anti-golf game What The Golf?, Limestone Games’ super stylish brawler Aeon Must Die, and our Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco champion Defend The Cake too.

So what game took the crown on this occasion and added themselves to this talented list? Well that game was Built Games' Spellfast. A real-time multiplayer batler based around the premise of spelling faster and better than your opponent.

However, despite Spellfast taking away the crown, nothing should be taken away from Guardians of War and ARia’s Legacy which came second and third place respectively.  All three of which can be learned about below.

Winner - Spellfast

In Spellfast players must create words from the letters that they have in their tile racks, before propelling them towards their opponent to deal damage in this real-time multiplayer word game. The more obscure and difficult the word, the more damage you do.

However, that's not all, as players can also use their words in order to defend themselves from those that are being hurled in their direction by their opponent. Keep firing those three-to-eight letter words, as only one player can be left standing at the end of the battle.

Runner-Up - Guardians of War

Comprising of two parts, Guardians of War is a game that challenges players to not only take part in intense head-to-head card battling action, but also to jump into a highly engaging metagame which sees players brew potions, collect and level-up cards and even assemble an unbeatable deck.

That's not all though, as the game also includes boss battles, in-game power-ups, four different game modes and the ability for up to four players to play simultaneously, even as a co-op team.

Third Place - ARia’s Legacy

ARia's Legacy takes the hugely popular escape room format and brings it directly to your living room utilising augmented reality technology.

That's not all though, as players will also be able to immerse themselves in a deep story involving the mysterious disappearance of ARia alongside the story of her legacy whilst exploring more than 50 different levels.

Want to be a part of the pitch and find yourself not only listed here but also up with a chance of coming along to South Korea for the Big Indie Awards in association with G-Star this November? Well if so then check out all of our upcoming pitches and get yourself signed up.
